Little Bit of Wisdom

Out of shaving cream? Let baby oil fill in. It'll lubricate the razor, keep hair stubs standing up for a clean shave, and won't dry out sensitive skin, as will soap or shaving cream.

Bet you didn't know...
...Dr. Pepper hydrates the body? A recent study found that Men who drank only water...water plus caffeinated soda...or water plus caffeinated soda and coffee all retained the same amount of water. All fluids count toward daily water intake.

Are You Unsure?
School has begun again! That time of the year students hate and some parents love. When new clothes, new shoes, and all sorts of school supplies are purchased without a second thought. The long care-free summer days are now replaced with classes, band and football practice and homework. "It's the most wonderful time of the year."

I remember the first day of school. Each year, that first day was always the same as every previous first day of school:

You hear this loud shrill sound early in the morning, and since it's been months since you got out of bed before noon, it takes quite a few minutes to realize it's not your alarm - it's your Mom! She's yelling "Get out of bed, you'll be late for the first day of school!" You drag yourself out of bed and on the way to the bathroom you notice the sun isn't up yet. After your bathroom duties are complete and you have put on the stiff new clothes your Mom forgot to wash, you make your way to the kitchen to eat the newest healthy breakfast food that your Dad wants the family to try. Once the breakfast substitute has been forced down, it's off to the bus stop.

At the bus stop is where that anxious/scared/embarrassed feeling comes back after laying dormant since the first day of school last year. Your anxious to get to school to see all of your friends, scared of that teacher everyone gasped at when you told them you had her this year, and embarrassed because everyone else has on something cool and you are wearing matching, stiff, K-mart special shirt and pants. Finally the bus arrives!

All the way to school everyone is talking about what they did over the summer and what they think the school year will be like. You are just hoping no one notices the big bird on your lunch box! And then there it is - that place in your nightmares last night - YOUR SCHOOL!

Off you march like good little children to the 1st of only a half dozen or so times you will ever go to HOME ROOM. There you begin the ritual off telling your teachers that they are saying your name wrong, or that they are calling you by your 1st name and when you go by your middle name. And so it begins - the first day of school.

As I look back and remember what it was like, I now can laugh at those embarrassing times and see how those scared and anxious feelings were felt by most everyone else! Some had a better way of hiding them than others, but I do know that we all were a little unsure of ourselves.

It's like that now sometimes - we are all a little unsure of what lies ahead. What will we be doing in a year? How will the decisions we make now affect us in the long run? For those of us who have children, will we make the right choices for their lives? How can we be sure of anything? The Bible says God knows the plans He has for us, and knowing that God knows is enough for me!
