Return to Stewardship! Little Bit of Wisdom |
| Relieving a headache may be as easy as swinging your arms. It's the basis for a treatment called Li Shou, which in Chinese means "hand swinging." Li Shou works because it counteracts the swollen cranial blood vessels that cause your head to throb and ache. By swinging your arms, you shunt the flow of blood to your limbs and reduce the flow of blood to your head. |
| Bet you didn't know... |
| ...women outnumber men in almost all age groups. Only among Americans age 19 or younger are there more males than females. Among people 85 and older, there are twice as many women as men. |
| Turning 33 |
| I heard someone say many years back that Adam was probably created
as a 33 year old man. Adam was created perfect. God made him fully grown, and ready to
"rule the earth". He was strong, and smart (he named all of the animals) and was
created "in God's image". What does "in God's image" mean? Well many a
teacher has explained it to mean that he was a 3-part being (and thus so are we), just as
God is a 3-part being. I believe that is true, but I wonder if it also means that Adam was
created to be just like the part of God who became flesh and dwelt among us? Jesus didn't begin his ministry until around the age of 30. Now some will argue that he had 2.5, or 3.1, or 3.6 or what ever number of years in his ministry before he was crucified. But for my little bit here, I'm going to stick with the traditional 3 years, and say that at 33, he died for you and me. That tells me that the One who came to Earth, fulfilled His/our "destiny" at the age of 33. Does that mean 33 is the perfect age? Why didn't Jesus die for us at 12 years old? or 18? or 24? Why 33? I wonder if 33 symbolizes completion. I know that in my life, the last 10 years or so have changed my appearance in more way than one! But if I stop and consider life in general, I see how the last 10 years have been a transformation from "young man" to "responsible adult". Whether I am or not is not your call - it's my wife's ;-) but I have begun to consider why 33 was the age our Lord decided to finish his ministry. By 33 most people have finished their education and have begun to apply all of that wisdom. If you have taken care of yourself, by 33 you have reached your "peak" physical condition. By 33, society will treat your opinions with more acceptance, and not see you as someone who does not have the experience necessary to form an opinion. And from the perspective of those who view everything through negative glasses, once you reach the mid-thirties, "it's all down hill from there". Maybe Jesus died at 33, because it's the perfect age. If that's the case, Adam, who was created perfect, would have been created as a 33 year old man. I turned this "perfect" age on March 13, 2001. For years I've told Trina that I couldn't wait to be 33. It may be silly to you, and all my rambling above may not make a bit of sense, but in my eyes, 33 is a special year and I'm proud to finally be here! |
