Return to Music Ed. 101!
Sonic Flood - Resonate - HMMM
can a bunch of people loosely related to a group become the
group itself? It's fine to have an album releasing, but should
it really be called Sonic Flood? Even Peter Furler from
Newsboys was "with" Sonic Flood for a while. This is turning
into a Spinal Tap or Lust Control group where the identities
of the members are secret - you don't even know who's in the
group from day to day. The album is another compilation of
modern worship that should be titled "WOW Worship Sonic Flood
Wannabes".
Gaithers - Billy Graham - OK speaking
of name dropping, shouldn't the honoree of an entire movement
(cassette, CD, video, DVD, TV programming) be on the project?
Most of you know by now my thoughts on the Gaithers. Sorry
Matthew, but this isn't generally an older readership so I can
say this. Every song sounds the same and half of them are on
other Gaither projects. They recycle "hits" and sell them for
a fortune. Now I can't blame them from a business point of
view - I guess the mystery is the consumers that keep on
putting out the money for repeats. Is there a "WOW Gaithers"
in the works?
Andrew Peterson - Clear to Venus -
This CD is not too bad. The more I listen to it, the more I
like it. I think my problem with this one is that I saw him
live three times in one week. I just about had his routine
memorized by the end of the week, but then he whipped out the
penny song. I must say that this has become an SM staff and
reader favorite for anyone that has heard the song. Good guy -
pretty good CD.
Newsong - Christmas Shoes - Get your
hanky ready. The song that was last years smash hit has
inspired a whole CD. They even put another emotional one on
there. I don't find "Christmas Carol" to be quite as big of a
masterpiece, but it can be touching nonetheless. I think
Christmas Shoes is great as a song and CD - watch out - this
will be a hot one this holiday season.
Jaci Velasquez - Christmas - If you
are looking for a traditional Christmas CD, here it is. She
doesn't really put a spin on any of these holiday classics,
they are just straight out of the caroling book. I have always
liked her stuff and this one can't disappoint unless you don't
like the familiar songs of the season. Sing along - I
guarantee you know the words! Good stuff but a little plain.
