Return to Legendary!

Howdy, kids! It's the end of the month, and I'm pushing the deadline yet again.

Tales from the Commonwealth
We had one of the best SM staff meetings in quite some time, with each of us cracking the others up (ask Ben about Bob's Chocolate Thunder). It finally cleared off from all the rain we've been deluged with recently, just in time for me to walk home. Stop gasping, the Jeep is fine. I just had to leave it overnight for my annual state inspection. It should be good to go once the oil is changed for my trek to Colorado. Add in the commute to Richmond and back three days this week plus my trip to Minneapolis around Labour Day, and you'll see I'm on the road quite a bit these days.

We went to see Planet of the Apes last night (which had a record setting opening weekend according to published reports). I enjoyed it, although the plot was a wee obvious. The make-up, however, was incredible. No hard rubber fake monkey faces this time. They even went to the detail of having them lope on all fours. Technical excellence! I was a bit letdown that Charlton Heston as a dying monkey didn't spoof his NRA quote, "They'll have to pry this rifle from my cold dead hands." For some reason, I kept being reminded of Lancelot Link, Secret Chimp (ask your parents). The trailer for The Lord of the Rings played before the movie, and Stu and I are prepared to pay $25 if we have to in order to see it.

Sports
We wrapped up our co-rec softball season with a split to finish 6-9. Ben and I almost got into a fight with some trailer trash bozo running his mouth about our team. Things were manageable until Ben decided to refer to said bozo as Joe Dirt. I was forced to use my wild man look and subtle charm to defuse the situation amicably. Amazing, we still won the Sportsmanship Trophy. Makes you wonder how bad the other teams behaved, you know?

In men's league we finished 10-9 which gave us our first winning spring season in several years. I capped the season off with a 3 for 4 game and climbed the backstop and howled accordingly.

Basketball at a co-worker's (he paved his backyard!) and badminton at Todd's are my new focus.

Hairstyles
Combable at last, although I have this Captain Morgan thing going on with my sideburns, moustache, and goatee.

This month
Reading - Ornithological Biography by John James Audobon (I swear I will finish this in Colorado)
