Sing a
Song Sweet Moozk Mn.
"...nobody sings a love song quite like you do..." No, I'm not a huge
Kenny Rogers fan. He's not the pitcher he used to be, and I don't even
like his chicken. I used this lyric simply as the opening to an article
devoted to my love of music.
My whole life, I have been in love with music. I've been
singing duets with my mom since before I was in Kindergarten. I was in
Show Choir for 3 years in high school. I was in a band for 2 years in
college. I've been playing the drums since I was 11, and the guitar
since I was 18. So, when I read the post on the SM message board from SM
reader/traveling musician Tara Leigh Cobble (who should've named her
tour "Nobody doesn't like Tara Leigh") about her drummer doing the
unconscionable deed of quitting the tour, I about croaked. Now, granted
I do not know the full details of the situation and an all-out rant
would be unwise. I also pray that the split was amicable and that
nothing disastrous happened making it necessary for him to leave.
Here's where the hard part begins. My dream (well-one of them)
has always been to be in a band that travels around the country and even
the world. And when I read about Tara's situation, my first impulse was
to email her and tell her I was available to take his place in the tour.
The major problems with this though, are 1) I don't have any drums--I
sold them a year ago because of lack of space and the need for cash--and
2) I had doubts. Reason number 2 scared the fool out of me. Never before
have I doubted my ability to play the drums or sing, nor have I ever
doubted the calling on my life to be involved in music. So, when I
reached for the keys to shoot off an email and then stopped, it was one
of the worst feelings I have ever had.
My point and struggle is this, do I offer my services to Tara
Leigh on the NomadOrWhat Tour? Or do I just sit back and pray she finds
someone? Whatever the outcome is, I'll always be here to fill you in on
my life here in BeeboLand. Take care of yourselves and y'all come back
now, ya hear?
BeeboLand/SM Restau-Rant
This month's review is of a very popular national chain of restaurants,
Applebee's. We have 2 of them here in Lynchburg. I, however, am only
going to review one of them.
The Applebee's that has been in town the longest-about 10
years-is located in Candler's Station, about 1 minute from the campus of
Liberty University. When it first opened, as happens with every new
place in Lynchburg, it was the hot spot to be. The food was loved and
the service was great.
Now however, even though the restaurant underwent renovations
within the last 3 years, the food and service leave much to be desired.
Drink glasses are left till completely empty before being refilled,
orders are taken wrong, you name it, it happens. It is the completely
bias and totally correct opinion of this critic that the Candler's
Station Applebee's needs a major overhaul in order to return to its
former status as America's Favorite Neighbor. No dish is recommended
since it will probably be served to you wrong.
